Why Do I Have to Hire a Louisiana Registered Agent?

Louisiana state law (RS 12:1-501) requires that business entities continuously maintain within the state a registered office and a registered agent. The purpose of the law is simple: the general public and government agencies need a reliable way to contact a business.

If your company is ever sued, a service of process (legal notification of the lawsuit) will be delivered to your registered agent, whose job it is to contact you and forward the document to you in a timely manner.

What are the Duties of My Louisiana Registered Agent?

  • We accept all service of process (notification of a lawsuit) on your behalf
  • We accept official mail from the Secretary of State on your behalf
  • We upload and forward all your documents to you immediately when they enter our office
  • We maintain a registered office in the State of Louisiana (physical address, not a PO box)
  • We stay open during regular business hours to accept certified mail and service of process on your behalf
  • We contact you immediately when we receive your documents

How Do I Change My Registered Agent to You?

File a Statement of Change Online

You can access the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website to file a Statement of Change online. This is considered an Amendment, and it is the fastest and easiest way to change registered agents. You will need your Charter or Trade Number to make the filing. This is the number assigned to your business when you filed your formation documents (you can look it up here).

When you file online, it will generate an email to us. We will confirm that we agree to represent you.

There is a $25 filing fee. You can pay by Credit Card (there is an additional $5 fee with CC transactions).

Make the Change on Your Annual Report

If you make the change during your annual renewal period, you will not be required to pay an additional fee (Annual Report fee is $30).

You can file your Annual Report online, by mail, or in person.
